History
The existence of a Monte at Cento is known since 1496, but the official foundation occurred only in 1501, following the preaching of Observant Franciscan priest Paolo Mendico, who also participated in the drafting of the statutes. The capital of the institute was collected with voluntary oblations. In the first half of the eighteenth century, the Monte experienced a difficult time due to accounting and administrative irregularities, then, in the Napoleonic period, it ceased its activity. The institute resumed its activity in 1808, under the control of Congregazione di Carità, and then autonomously from 1816. In 1923, pawnbroking activity went to Cassa di Risparmio di Cento, which absorbed the Monte in its entirety in 1941.

Internal organization
Administration of the Monte was initially entrusted to ten conservators: eight citizens elected by the Council of the city, the rector of the church of San Biagio and the guardian of the Franciscan convent of the Osservanza.
