History
A first Monte was established at the beginning of March 1467, but it lasted only a year, since a provision that established the constitution of the capital by the deposit of “dazi vecchi“ from the Comune was almost immediately repealed. Subsequently, it was not until 1562 for the new foundation, promoted by Conventual Franciscan priest Francesco Sebastiano Castelli da Terni, and approved by Pope Pius IV on January 14th, 1563. In 1864, administration of the Monte went under the local Congregazione di Carità. In 1916, due to a lack of activity, the administration decided to suspend all operations; the Monte closed in 1930 for good, when the whole capital was donated to Opera pia Ricovero di mendicità di Città di Castello.

Archival history
The fund is not ordered nor inventoried. From an index dated 1858 (preserved, presumably with other documentation relating to the Monte, in the Congregatione di Carità preserved at Azienda sanitaria locale ASL n. 1 Umbria), it is known that the fund consisted of over 1300 units. News of the 1940s/50s report the documentation of the Monte either shredded (1942) or still preserved in the historical archive of the Municipality (1956). Documentation relating to the Monte is located in 85 registers (1768-1909) identified during the transfer of documentation on municipal institutions of public assistance and charity.
