History
The Monte was founded in 1490, on the proposal of Observant Franciscan preacher Michele da Acqui; the first statutes were approved December of the same year by Gian Galeazzo Sforza. The institute had a hard time right from the start, due to free loans, replaced with a 5% interest rate from the middle of the sixteenth century. In 1612, the Monte was refounded by the Municipal Council; yet, the institute went through a even harder time with the plague of 1630. The statutes of the Monte were reformed in 1692 by the Congregazione dell'Ospedale Maggiore. In 1927, the credit section of the Monte was absorbed by Cassa di risparmio delle Province Lombarde, while the pledges section was ceded to Congregazione di Carità.
