History
The town council decreed the foundation of the Monte since 1541, but this was effectively erected only ten years later in 1552, thanks to the bequest by Gaspare Corvalli, who bequested his house to host the Monte. In 1574 Gregory XIII gave the Monte the apostolic authorization, following a solicitation from Cesare Gonzaga. In 1807 the Monte was aggregated to the local Congregazione di carità, from which it was separated again in 1870. In 1942 it was recognized as a second category Monte di credito su pegno and as such it continued to operate until a decree from the president of the Republic dated 26 December 1972 ratified its incorporation in the Cassa di risparmio di Reggio Emilia.

Regulatory framework
The 1551 statutes were reformed in 1676 and then again in 1870.
Internal organization
The administration of the Monte was initially entrusted to the Confraternita del Santissimo Sacramento.
