History
The City Council resolution for the foundation of the Monte dates back to 1579, but the procedure was positively resolved only four years later, in 1583. The Monte ceased its activity in 1787, by decision of Grand Duke Leopold II, as a consequence of difficulties in the financial administration.

The administration of the Monte was initially entrusted to three deputies (known as “Savi“) elected by the Comune, a massaro (position later entrusted to the dean of Spedale di Santa Maria della Croce), an appraiser, a camerlengo and a notary with functions of chancellor.
