History
Founded in 1469 by the Comune, behind the initiative of Fra' Agostino da Perugia (O.F.M. Obs.). In 1594, the Bishop of Spoleto ordered its closure; however, the Monte was immediately reintroduced via a bull from Pope Clement VIII, upon request of the citizens. The patrimony of the Monte diminished during eighteenth century. In 1829, a new regulation, which provided the wages of Monte employees to be paid by the Comune, brought new life to the institute, which resumed its regular activity in 1830. In 1858, Comune revoked the provisions concerning payment of the salaries to the Monte employees, which was therefore temporarily closed. In 1863, it went under the management of the local Congregazione di Carità. In 1934, it went under the Ente Comunale di Assistenza (E.C.A.) of Trevi and, in 1942, after having taken the name of Monte di Credito su Pegno, it was merged with Monte di Credito su Pegno di Spoleto.
